Children

Children are welcome at the 9.00am Eucharist where we offer a program suitable for children aged 4 years to 10 years.
Our growing parish family at St Peter's includes increasing numbers of families with children. The inclusion of children in worship is of great importance. Worship is one of the basic ways people learn what it means to be Christian.

A program for children is held in the Parish Room [known as the David Armstrong room] on Sundays during the 9am Sung Eucharist-during the school term. We have several members of our congregation who lead this ministry by roster.

Parents and Toddlers meet for Thursday Playtime on the first and third Thursday of the month in the Armstrong Room from 10am. For more information please contact Carolyn Lawes on 9953 - 4517 or email clawes@unwired.com.au

We welcome children to worship by

  • valuing them as members of our community of faith
  • modeling appropriate church behaviour for children by teaching them when to stand, sit or kneel with the congregation
  • including children in the exchange of peace
  • encouraging older children to become more active in worship as members of the choir and /or servers' guild
  • encouraging parents to take children into the Parish Room or a special area of the church for younger children with appropriate activities.

Bringing children to worship may not always be easy for parents, but it is essential to their growth in Christ. The Body of Christ assembling is incomplete in their absence.

We are able to show that

  • children learn to belong to Christ and are welcome
  • children become familiar with worship and prayer
  • children are enriched by the beauty of music and art as expression of praise and as human responses to God
  • children hear stories from the Bible read and begin to know Christian worship as a place where God may speak to them
  • children witness the drama of Baptism and Eucharist as signs of God's presence
  • children discover that they are valued as persons by God and by the people of God at church.

JINNY KIM of SCECGS Redlands has won this year's St Peter's Art Prize given annually to a Visual Arts student in Years 9-12 for a painting or scultpure with a Spirituality theme.

SCECGS Redlands is the only school within our parish boundary. The school uses the church for occasional services; and the chaplain and staff bring Year groups to the church for classes each week.
